James Bethell, who has a couple of all-weather winners to his name and has started the turf season in fair form, can notch his first win of 2006 on grass with Angelofthenorth in the Wallyford Fillies Handicap at Musselburgh.

The four-year-old has come to hand early in the last two seasons and beat Ashes, who is now 10lb worse off at the weights, from this mark over this course and distance on her reappearance last year.

Alan Munro, who was in the saddle that day, is back on board and, given she has shown a preference for give in the ground, today's soft surface coupled with the stall 4 draw looks ideal.

All things being equal, Robert Winston is going to be challenging for Champion Jockey honours this year and he can be on the mark with Garlogs in the Balcarres Handicap over the same five furlong trip.

The filly has progressed over this trip on both all-weather surfaces this winter and will be hard to beat - especially as she handles cut in the ground - from this 8lb lower mark back on turf.

Winston also has sound prospects of getting among the winners earlier on the card with the improving Vancouver Gold in the Rectangle Group Handicap over seven furlongs.

Although facing only three rivals, Karl Burke's filly turned in her best effort yet to win her first handicap at Southwell last time and, given she is effective over this trip and on soft, is fancied to go close back on turf from only a 3lb higher mark.

Hurdles winner Hernando's Boy has no problems with soft ground and can be a winner for Winston's rival and friend Paul Hanagan in the Lothian Handicap over two miles.

Hanagan can also be in double form as he teams up with last week's ready Southwell scorer Dancing Lyra under his penalty in the DM Hall Handicap over a mile.

The five-year-old easily got off the mark on his first start for Richard Fahey and, although he has a penalty to carry, will be well suited by the return to a mile.

At Wolverhampton's all-weather fixture Christine Dunnett's Yarmouth winner Silver Dane stands out in the Enjoy Racing From The Zongalero Restaurant Handicap over five furlongs.

At the seaside venue on Wednesday the four-year-old turned in a much-improved effort to score from 14lb out of the handicap and, even with a penalty, is still 8lb lower in the weights.

I'll Do It Today has shown a liking for this course and should put Latif's suspect stamina to the test in the Hotel And Conferencing At Dunstall Park Handicap over a mile and six furlongs.

Malcolm Jefferson's strapping gelding has run his best races over this course and distance and once again failed to last home over two miles last time.

He still has plenty of scope for further improvement.

John Quinn, fresh from landing the Lincoln at Redcar last weekend, can score in a lesser grade with the consistent Basinet in the Watch Out for themed Days At Wolverhampton Handicap over the extended nine furlongs.
