A DASH for cash is being organised to raise funds for a charity working with problem youngsters.

The police, probation service and local education authorities referred almost 200 young people, aged from 13 to 25, to the charity Fairbridge Teesside, in 2004.

The three-hour Fairbridge Grand Prix will take place at the Teesside Autodrome, South Bank, near Middlesbrough, on Tuesday, April 26.

The charity is looking for business sponsors to make the event a success.

Jamie Clarke, acting manager of Fairbridge Teesside, said: "This is a chance for people to try something new and raise money for a great cause.

"In addition, it's a great opportunity for local businesses to use this as an unusual team-building event, where staff can beat their boss."

The main event in the afternoon, an endurance race, will see as many as 25 teams of five people racing in twin-engined karts, capable of speeds up to 60mph.

Those taking part in the charity event will also be able to take high-performance cars on a test spin around the one-mile circuit and drive 4x4 off-road vehicles and quad bikes.

Entry costs £250 per team, which includes a barbecue buffet lunch, a team certificate and souvenir photograph.

Teesside Autodrome operator Bob Pope said: "The Fairbridge Grand Prix will give people the chance to get behind the wheel of a high-speed vehicle under racing conditions on Britain's fastest and most challenging circuit, and for a fraction of the cost."
