A HOUSING association wants to demolish 22 elderly people's bungalows and replace them with modern homes.
Home Housing has applied to Sedgefield Borough Council to knock down the homes in Derwent Terrace, Spennymoor, and build 20 bungalows on the site.
The bungalows will have two bedrooms, including two designed for disabled residents, and form part of the larger Appleton Lodge sheltered housing scheme.
Andy Lee, national director of communications for Home Housing, said: "The old buildings will be replaced by modern homes and address the shortage of two-bedroom homes available in sheltered housing.
"If the scheme is approved, we will make every effort to make it move as smooth as possible.
"Elderly residents will be re-homed in alternative accommodation locally."
The plans go before Sedgefield Borough Council's development control committee on Friday, when officers will recommend approval
