NEWCASTLE United's Craig Moore has admitted time is running out for the club's under-fire defence to impress the manager-in-waiting.
The back four again came under the spotlight following Sunday's 3-1 capitulation at Charlton, with caretaker manager Glenn Roeder warning the players they were risking their long-term futures.
That view was enhanced by Moore after the Aussie completed his first 90 minutes for Newcastle at the Valley.
"W know there is a manager out there somewhere who is looking at players and everyone is out to impress," said the 30-year-old, whose first start saw him give away a penalty for the opener then see an attempted clearance cannon off Lee Bowyer's leg for Charlton's second.
"We are all playing for our futures. The hunger is out there for us to do well, not just from me but from all the players at the club.
"We need to be doing better than we are at this moment. We have made a lot of mistakes throughout the season, which have cost us goals.
"We're trying to eradicate that and get it out of our games, but if you give away two goals away from home it is always going to be hard to get something from the game.
"That's been the case in recent games and it was the same story at Charlton."
Moore has endured a torrid time since signing a two-year deal in August with injuries preventing him making his debut for seven months.
His future appears uncertain at best, whoever takes charge at St James' Park, but the Aussie is keen to stay positive despite his miserable start.
"These things happen but it's how you bounce back from it," said Moore, speaking on the club's website, nufc.co.uk.
"I don't know if the circumstances of Charlton's second goal sum up the club's luck, or my luck, or whatever?
"It's just unfortunate but I tried to stay positive."
