PUPILS saw designs come to life at a free computer workshop.
The one-day programme at Bishop Auckland College's Digital Factory, in Newton Aycliffe, introduced students to the principles of design for manufacture, giving them hands-on experience of advanced 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD).
They created on screen a fully-rotational model of a mobile phone which helped them understand aspects of style and budgeting.
The students downloaded design files into the Digital Factory's advanced rapid prototyping equipment and saw their design made in plastic.
Bishop Barrington pupil Jade Patterson, from Bishop Auckland, said: "I like what you design on the computer. You can see it in 3D - it's great."
The programme was offered in partnership with Sedgefield Borough Council and funded by One NorthEast.
Schools taking part included Bishop Barrington, in Bishop Auckland, Sunnydale, in Shildon, Durham Johnston, in Durham, Woodham Community Technology College, in Newton Aycliffe, Spennymoor School and Tudhoe Grange.
