ADRIAN WEBSTER'S dream date with Brazil on June 4 has been thrown into doubt after the Darlington midfielder was ruled out for the rest of the season.

The 25-year-old has been told he will require arthroscopic surgery to remove floating bone in his foot, ruling him out of action for the next eight weeks.

Webster will miss New Zealand's two friendies against Chile in Santiago next month.

He will be cutting it fine to face world champions Brazil in Geneva, as his scheduled return will be just days before the glamour tie.

Webster made his debut against Australia in June last year and recently earned his second and third caps against Malaysia.

The ex-Charlton man was expected to be named in coach Ricki Herbert's provisional 38-man squad to face Chile, which would have provided an opportunity to stake his claim for a place against Brazil.

But now Webster's hopes of rubbing shoulders with the likes of Ronaldinho hang in the balance.

The midfielder was named on the bench at Barnet at the weekend, only to pull up during the warm-up with an Achilles problem.

Tests have shown Webster has suffered a recurrence of a foot problem. He fractured it five years ago.

Webster had only recently broken back into manager David Hodgson's first-team plans after losing his place in October.

Hodgson has no other fresh injury worries to contend with ahead of Saturday's visit of seventh-placed Lincoln City. Matty Appleby came through 83 minutes of the Barnet game without any problems after a hamstring injury.

Joey Hutchinson (knee) and Brian Close (ankle) are making good progress with their respective long-term injuries.

Phil Stamp is undergoing treatment on a back injury and won't play again this season.
