YOUNG scientists from Barnard Castle School have been experimenting with their futures after they visited one of the world's great centres of learning.
Eight of the school's most gifted students were invited to visit Cambridge University to mark the end of National Science Week.
A host of scientific lectures, exhibitions and demonstrations were set up for visitors, giving them the chance to experience the facilities and opportunities available to them.
The also questioned some of the world's most accomplished professors on topics including physics, psychology, astronomy, medicine, maths and Buddhism.
Teacher John Hughes said: "The visit provided the sixth formers with the chance to see what was on offer at Cambridge, giving them a goal to aim for as they study their A-levels."
Student Catherine Almond, 17, of Barnard Castle, said: "I would love to go to Cambridge and certainly plan to work as hard as I possibly can to get there.
