POLICE are warning people to be on the look out after a bogus workman tried to con a woman out of £400.
The man pretended to be from a gas company and told the woman she needed to hand over the money to stop her supply from being cut off at her Redcar Road home in Guisborough, east Cleveland.
When the woman refused to pay the money last week he demanded she hand over £40 instead.
Again she refused, telling the him she was going out, but the relentless conman unsuccessfully offered to walk with her to the town centre to draw the cash out of the bank.
The following day she telephoned her gas supplier, which confirmed the man was not one of their employees, so she contacted the police.
The bogus caller is described as white, 5ft 5in, broad and in his late forties. He has wiry hair, which is short and brushed back from his face.
He was smartly dressed, wearing a dark fleece and dark trousers, white shirt, black tie and black shoes.
Anyone with information is asked to call Cleveland Police on (01642) 302626.
