Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council is warning residents that normal waste collections on Tuesday are to be cancelled because of the planned one-day strike by staff from local government union Unison.
The stoppage will prevent the collection of wheeled bins and plastics, but a recovery programme is being organised to make collections a day late, with work on Saturday to complete the catch-up, allowing a return to the normal collection routine from Tuesday, April 4.
WOMEN ONLY: History was made at the annual general meeting of the Redcar Constituency Labour Party last week. For the first time, all of the principal officers elected were women. They were: chairman Councillor Brenda Forster, vice-chairman Christine Foley and Ian Jeffrey (rules require that there be one female and one male vice-chairman), secretary Marilyn Norton and treasurer Councillor Wendy Wall.
MEETING CANCELLED: The Redcar Ladies Retirement Group will not meet next month. The next meeting will be on Monday, May 15, at 2pm, in Coatham Church Hall. Jen Stuart will give a talk called A Right Royal Do. For more information, call 07733 158002.
ART SHOW: Artists Kerry Flear, Chris O'Neill and Keith Moss have a joint exhibition, Harmony, at Kirkleatham Hall Museum, Redcar, until April 20. Poetry, abstract paintings, sketches and fine art photography are on show.
