Middlesbrough manager Steve McClaren admitted he would rather not be facing an extra game but was pleased to still be in the FA Cup last night.
Boro will have to replay their quarter-final after drawing 0-0 with Charlton at The Valley.
McClaren was especially pleased with the performances of defenders Gareth Southgate and Ugo Ehiogu and felt a draw was probably a fair result.
He said: ''We knew this would be a tough tie. It is never easy at The Valley.
''We wouldn't have taken a draw because of the fixture pile-up but we are in the hat and we will go back to the Riverside fairly confident.
''Charlton, especially in the first half, hit us with everything and the two centre-halves and the goalkeeper saved us.
''We had chances but it was a fair result. I said before the game we have got to use our experience in these cup games and we had that in Southgate and Ugo.
''We are disappointed not to win on the night but we have got another shot.''
Charlton defender Hermann Hreidarsson felt the home side were unfortunate not to have claimed their place in the last four.
The Iceland international said: ''I felt it was quite an even game but I felt we had the best chances.
''We're a bit disappointed not to be through, I felt we played quite well.
''We are still in the hat and hopefully we can do it up there. We have played them three times and they have all been close and I think it will be the same up there.''
Charlton boss Alan Curbishley added: ''Before the game we felt it would be a dogged affair, games between us and Middlesbrough are quite even.
''It was well contested, someone needed to score to open it up. We had chances but didn't take them.
''In the end we both went for it but no-one could get the goal.
''Not many of us have been in a semi-final draw and we are in it. We are delighted to still be in the hat and are looking forward to the replay.
''It is another game. We've got to go up to the Riverside and we have got a decent record up there.''
* Portsmouth forward Lomana LuaLua has been warned as to his future conduct by the Football Association after admitting a charge of improper conduct.
The charge against the DR Congo international related to comments made about referee Uriah Rennie following Pompey's match against Tottenham on December 12 last year.
LuaLua, who requested a personal hearing, said following his side's 2-1 defeat at White Hart Lane: ''It does not help when the referee is playing for the other team.''
