FOURTEEN North-East further education colleges are backing a search to find the shining stars of education and skills.
The Celebration of Learning and Skills Awards, organised by the Learning and Skills Council (LSC), are designed to highlight and celebrate the achievements of learners of all ages and organisations.
A total of 11 awards will be given, and three awards ceremonies will be held, culminating with the grand final at the Hardwick Hall Hotel, near Sedgefield, County Durham, in July.
Colleges have teamed up to sponsor the Sports and Recreation Award, which is open to nominations to reward outstanding contribution to sports, sports therapy, sports management and health and fitness areas. A shortlist for this and nine of the other categories will be announced in May.
The other public vote categories are: arts and media, business and enterprise, construction and engineering, hospitality and tourism, working in the community, pioneering recruitment, trade union lifelong learning, outstanding achievement and investment in skills.
The winners of each category will receive £250, an award and certificate, with £500 for the grand final winner.
The two runners-up in each category receive £100, plus a certificate. All shortlisted nominees receive a certificate of merit.
David Willshaw, chairman of the partnership of Tees Valley Principals, said: "We are delighted to recognise and support this event, which highlights the tremendous achievements of students in the region. It will give us all a chance to share in their inspirational experiences and, of course, to celebrate with the nominees and their families."
Nomination forms are available from Connexions One Stop Shops and learning establishments in the region, on 0191-201 6089 or visit www.lsc.gov.uk/teesvalley
