CONMEN posing as water company employees have stolen cash from elderly residents.
Police say there have been six distraction burglaries in the York area in recent days.
Men claiming to be from the water company have used a variety of excuses to gain entry to the properties and have stolen cash once inside.
A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said: "We would remind people not to let anybody in unless they can show an ID card and prove their identity."
Officers want to trace a green Rover car, registration, P361 BER, seen near some of the burglaries. Anyone with information is asked to call York CID on (01904) 669451.
