A WOMAN was knocked down by a hit-and-run driver as she crossed a road at traffic lights.
The car hit the 21-year-old with such force, the near-side wing mirror broke off and was left at the scene.
The victim had a fractured ankle and heavy bruising on her right side and back.
She was crossing Longlands Road, in Middlesbrough, in the direction of the Brambles Farm public house, as the lights turned to amber.
The car sped past two stationary cars, which were waiting for the traffic lights at the junction with Cargo Fleet Lane to change to green.
The accident happened shortly after 7pm on Monday.
