CHESS masters of the future have taken part in an annual tournament.
About 40 young players competed in the 14th Richmondshire Chess Festival at Richmond Lower School.
Organiser Vicki Walker, a teacher at Richmond School, said: "We don't worry too much about the standards - the main thing is that the kids have fun.
"They all enjoyed themselves and those who won a prize were thrilled."
Among the young players were four members of the same family.
Jack, Tommy, Annie and Ben Stones from Marrick, in Swaledale, all won prizes.
The awards were presented by the Mayor of Richmond, Stuart Parsons, and Mayoress Audrey Lomax.
The winners of the primary class were: first, Tommy Stones; second, Mathew Bateson; third, Suraj Saggar; merit award, Jonathan Coustick; adjudicators award, Annie Stones; special award, John Terry and youngest player, Jack Stones.
Intermediate: first, Christopher Bailey; second, Sammy Rawson and third, Ben Stones.
Senior: first, Robert Wilhemy; second, William Bailey; third, Craig Lyne and merit award, Ben Sargent. Lightening competition: First, William Bailey; second, Christopher Bailey and joint third Ben Stones, Ben Sargent, Michael Brown, Robert Wilhelmy.
