A CHARITY organisation aimed at helping carers is looking to recruit more volunteers after receiving an £80,000 grant.
The George Hardwick Foundation helps carers, former carers and patients in the Stockton and Middlesbrough area.
The organisation has just received the grant from the Big Lottery Fund.
Some of the money will be used to recruit more volunteers to help the hundreds of carers who contact the foundation every year.
Manager Andy McMann said: "Volunteers are a vital part of a growing charity like ours.
"They help us support local people who devote their lives to the sick and disabled members of our society.
"We need volunteers to befriend carers who are coping at home and feeling isolated.
"We also want mentors who will help carers who would like to develop more skills but feel nervous about going on a course."
There are an estimated 40,000 carers in Stockton and Middlesbrough.
The foundation's Stockton carers' centre already has 45 volunteers but more are needed for the newly-opened Middlesbrough branch.
