CLUBBERS are helping to pilot revolutionary technology to put under-age drinkers under the thumb.
Escapade Night Club, in Gladstone Street, has installed a biometric fingerprint sensor as part of a new membership scheme.
The equipment has been designed by a company in Gateshead, UK Biometrics.
The equipment has enabled Escapade to launch the scheme.
As well as tracking customer traits and adopting a loyalty scheme, it means that younger drinkers, who look under 18, do not have to carry ID.
General manager Iain McKay said: "It is a loyalty scheme. People register using their thumb. It is a logarithm rather than a thumbprint.
"It assigns a sign to a person's thumb. Instead of carrying a form of ID, people are registered and they don't need to bring ID again."
The project was first launched in Newcastle clubs last year and has also been successful in Taunton, Somerset.
Escapade introduced the system before Christmas and has been using it since the start of the year.
