A Darlington couple who met at an RAF dance have celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.
Thomas and Jean Gibson marked 50 years of marriage yesterday with family and friends.
The main celebration was at Middleton St George Cricket Club on Thursday night.
The pair met at a dance at Middleton St George airport - now Durham Tees Valley Airport.
Mr Gibson, originally from Perth, in Scotland, was stationed there in 1952.
Four years later, they married at St Laurence's Church, Middleton St George, on St Patrick's Day.
Their wedding reception was held at Devonport Hotel and was attended by 45 guests.
The pair found the bill for the event, which was £27 6s 10d, when they recently moved from Middleton St George to Braemar Court, Darlington.
Mr Gibson was a planning engineer with Tinsley's, in Neasham Road, Darlington. His wife worked for Durham Tube for 23 years as a secretary.
They have two children, Sarah, 48, and Nicholas, 43, and four grandchildren.
Mrs Gibson said: "It has just been give and take. We have both worked hard at our marriage."
