A CAMPAIGN to restore a historic church organ has been awarded £5,000 from the Foundation for Sport and the Arts.
Members of St Mary's Church, in Thirsk, are trying to raise £100,000 for vital work on the organ, which dates back to 1877.
The grant comes just weeks after a £5,000 donation from Thirsk Infants School Charity.
The money was welcomed by Vale of York MP Anne McIntosh.
She said: "I commend the efforts of many who work to keep St Mary's, and all the other churches in my constituency and across the country, in such good shape."
