A CLUB is not pulling any punches when it comes to getting youngsters fit.
The Dene Get Active Club has been set up in the Dene Community School, in Peterlee, to work with primary school children.
Members of the boxing team at East Durham and Houghall College are going to the club's sessions on Monday to teach the children about staying active through boxercise and skipping.
The 18-week programme started this year and aims to teach and encourage, the children, who will go on to secondary education at Dene Community School next year, about healthy lifestyles.
During the weekly sessions, coaches involve children in a range of activities, including gym, swimming, boxercise, hip-hop dance and orienteering.
Easington District Council sports officer Shaun Hope said: "The idea of integrating children from four feeder schools together prior to them joining secondary school can break down so many social barriers."
Organisers hope to expand the scheme across the district.
