A £2.3M extension to Derwentside Business Centre was opened yesterday.
Hilary Armstrong, MP for north-west Durham, did the honours at the facility at Consett Business Park, in Consett, County Durham.
It is hoped 50 jobs will be created in the factories and office space that have been created by Derwentside District Council.
The authority created the extra space after an approach by Kelly Park Caring, Warwick Equest, Energy Services and Aquajoy Bathlifts, who wanted to expand but stay in the district.
