A FURNITURE manufacturer will shed between ten and 12 jobs in the coming weeks as it moves its operations from three factories into one.
The second phase of job cuts at Europa Sofabeds and Brundellwood Upholstery, both run by the same management, is part of the 30 redundancies announced last month. Earlier this month, the company reduced its workforce of 161 by 19.
It plans to bring together its Europa and Brundellwood operations, with a returns and imports unit, at the Newton Aycliffe Industrial Park.
The business presently operates at three units, covering 210,000sq ft, which will come together in the 165,000sq ft Brundellwood unit.
Manager director John Forrester said: "It is never nice leaving a factory that you have been in for 12 years, but needs must. It is a cheaper site in terms of overheads and ground rent.
"There will be more redundancies when we consolidate the businesses in about three to four weeks, but it will be no more than another ten or 12, taking the total up to about 30 as expected."
