A £10,000 grant has been provided for a community learning facility.
The money has been pledged by Richmondshire District Council for the extension to Gilling West village hall.
Villagers plan to use the facility for activities including computer lessons, yoga sessions and language classes.
Ward councillor John Cronin said: "I'm delighted that we are able to help this project move forward.
"We've already got a design for the annexe and planning approval in place.
"The local community has shown they want this sort of facility and hopefully now we are on our way to achieving it."
The grant has been provided by the council's community committee.
Villagers need £150,000 in total.
Other sources of money include the Big Lottery Fund, North Yorkshire County Council's second homes discount and village hall grant schemes and the European Union.
