WORK started this week on a £4m business village that could bring up to 160 jobs to Northallerton.
The chairman of Hambleton District Council, Councillor Peter Brown, cut the first turf on the Omega Business Village at Northallerton Business Park, off Darlington Road.
The project will see 1,550-sq ft of self-contained office units built on the site. They will be in a village-style layout with landscaping.
The first units are due for completion in July. The whole project is expected to be finished by early 2007.
Andrew Harris, managing director of the company behind the scheme, Partnership Projects Ltd, said: "With our regional partners we have created a nationwide network of business villages which attract inward investment and meet the needs of local companies.
"Our research suggests that many incoming local companies would be able to serve North Yorkshire and the Tees Valley from a Northallerton base.
"Our previous projects of this type point to an average of 7.7 permanent jobs per unit, suggesting the attraction of about 160 jobs at Omega to benefit the local economy."
