COUNCIL officials have issued parking warnings to football fans.
Up to 3,000 away fans are expected at this weekend's match between Darlington FC and Carlisle United, and council wardens patrolling close to the 96.6TFM Arena are to ensure the residents-only parking scheme in nearby streets is observed.
Warden patrols have been doubled and any motorist found flouting the regulations will be issued a fixed £60 penalty. Patrols will start at noon tomorrow and continue until the end of the match.
John Buxton, borough council development and environment director, said: "We are expecting a big crowd for Saturday's game and there is, of course, the potential for traffic problems.
"However, we are not going to tolerate drivers using nearby residential areas to leave their vehicles before going to the stadium."
The council has supplied Darlington FC with details of available parking spaces in the town. The information is also being passed on to Carlisle supporters.
Travelling fans have been urged to arrive early and home supporters are being advised to make use of public transport or walk.
