PEOPLE living in Darlington are being invited to earn a little extra money by working as school crossing wardens in the town.
The lack of lollipop women and men in Darlington is causing the borough council a problem.
Yesterday, bosses appealed for more volunteers to step forward to fill the shortage.
Three part-time vacancies need to be filled to bring the council's lollipop team back to full strength.
Vacancies are for Bates Avenue junction, in West Auckland Road, from 8.10am to 9am and 3.10am to 4.15pm; Cockerton Green, from 8.25am to 9.05am and 3.20pm to 4pm; and St George Primary School, in Middleton St George, from 8.30am to 9.05am and 3.15pm to 3.45pm.
Darlington Borough Council's assistant road safety officer, Denise Caley, said: "Mobile patrol officers have been drafted in to cover areas in the meantime, but permanent replacements are needed for the important locations."
Wardens are paid £5.96 per hour, and anyone aged between 18 and 74 can apply by contacting Ms Caley on (01325) 388783.
