SCHOOL children will be VIPs when they re-open a village store following a £60,000 make-over.
The Co-op, in Front Street, Sacriston, will close at 8pm tomorrow to be converted into the firm's Welcome format.
It will re-open on Monday, with the official re-launch to take place next Thursday, at 10am, with a ribbon cut by pupils from Sacriston Infants and Junior schools, who will be presented with £100 for each school's funds by store manager Beverly Dawson.
"As a community retailer, it is appropriate that we involve the community in our special events and we are delighted our local schools are playing a central role in the relaunch of our store," said Ms Dawson.
The store will be re-redecorated and will offer a more comprehensive range, including more chilled beers and wines and fresh foods.
"We provide a much-valued service for the local community, and I am confident our shoppers will be delighted with our improved store."
