POLICE investigating a report that a man had fallen from a bridge have made a fresh appeal for information.
A man was reported to have fallen off the Redheugh Bridge, between Newcastle and Gateshead just after 3.30am on Saturday.
Since then, there have been thorough searches of the area and the force's marine unit has carried out two dives - with no one recovered.
So far, no people reported as missing from home match the description of the man, who is said to have dark hair, was wearing a knee-length black coat and carrying a rucksack or sports bag.
Police are still keen to trace a young male and female who were making their way along the bridge from Newcastle to Gateshead around the time and may be witnesses.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Newcastle CID on 0191-214 6555 ext 62151
