A SURVEY has revealed parents in the region are more likely to help their sons rather than their daughters with getting on the property ladder.
On average, sons in the North receive 20 per cent more than daughters when buying their first home.
The survey by Co-operative Mortgage Services shows this is the only region in the country where this happens.
However, four times as many females as males receive as much as £20,000 from their parents.
Daughters in the North receive an average of £3,400 worth of financial help - about £700 less than sons.
However, 79 per cent of parents in the North-East do not expect to be paid back, compared with the South-West where a quarter of parents expect to be paid back, with six per cent asking for a share of the profits.
