THREE Darlington schoolgirls have won first prize in a construction competition.
Charlotte Horner, 14, Sarah Conlon, 14, and Sophie Parkin, 15, from Carmel Technology College, took the honours in this year's enterprise in construction challenge. Sarah said: "We were really pleased to win."
The girls wowed judges with their idea to build an Internet caf and function room based on the Duxford Air Museum, Cambridge, on a plot of land at Darlington's West Park.
They won £500, a trophy each and a commemorative plaque. They are now considering careers in architecture.
In second place was TBC Branksome, from Branksome Comprehensive School made up of Judith Henderson, 15, Sarah Neela, 15, Nuva Khatun, 14, and Jessica Copland, 15.
Terry Hanlon from the Construction Industry Training Board who ran the contest, said: "The standard of work has been truly excellent."
