A FORMER factory worker is proving it is never too late to learn after moving into customer services at a North-East call centre.
After 28 years working for television manufacturer LG Philips, in Durham City, until its closure last year, Ken Stanness, 52, has started a new career with gas and electricity supplier EDF Energy.
Mr Stanness, from High Barnes, in Sunderland, joined the Doxford park company after trying to find work at job fairs around the region.
He said: "I was getting nowhere with jobs in manufacturing, even though I knew I could do them, employers thought I was too old. I went to one interview with five or six other people, all of who were younger than me, and as a team leader, I had managed all of them so thought I stood a chance for the job, but got turned down.
"I felt there was no choice really but to change trade. My son and sister-in-law work at EDF Energy and persuaded me to apply."
Mr Stanness has completed six weeks of customer services training.
