A YOUNG dentist who is completing his post graduate training in east Durham is now sharing his experiences in the profession with dozens of school pupils.
Olumide (known as Mide) Ojo, who is based at the Princess Road dental practice, in Seaham, has talked to students at Easington Community School and St Bede's Catholic Comprehensive School, in Peterlee, about career prospects in dentistry.
The specialist career advice sessions are being organised through the Skills Training Education Partnership in Schools (Steps) which works across the North-East encouraging young people from all aspects of society to make informed career choices in the health and social care sector.
And Mr Ojo's talks last week were particularly apt, given the shortage of dentists in the Easington district, a shortage which has prompted the launch of Easington Primary Care Trust's Big Project aimed at recruiting more dentists.
Mr Ojo, who joined the dental practice of Robin Barber in August last year, said: "Dentistry is really interesting and I am enjoying meeting patients who have been very friendly and seem pleased with the dental work I've done for them.
"I hope I have passed on to these young people my enthusiasm for the profession so that they will consider a career in dentistry in the future.''
