TRANSPLANT baby Lennox Nicholson is likely to remain in hospital for at least another week.
Lennox, from Guisborough, east Cleveland, who underwent a life-saving liver transplant before Christmas, was readmitted to hospital three weeks ago.
Although the seven-month-old's new liver continues to work well, doctors have been treating him for other health problems.
He was readmitted to St James University Hospital, in Leeds, on February 17 because he was vomiting and losing weight.
While his condition has improved, he is now fighting a throat infection.
Last night, his grandfather, Gary Nicholson, said: "We have just got to be patient. We think he is going to be in for another week at least. He is still not making much progress with his weight and now he has come down with a throat infection."
He said doctors believe the transplanted liver was working well, but that Lennox needs to be clear of other health problems before he can go home again.
He said: "The doctors are also altering some of the drugs he has been on. As he comes off one drug, they are trying him on others."
Lennox's parents, Simon Nicholson, 21, and Amy Robinson, 20, are looking forward to bringing their son home for the second time.
Lennox was placed on the transplant list after he developed biliary atresia.
Doctors said the boy had only days to live when a donated organ became available.
