A PIECE of Harrogate' history is being restored in the town centre.
A shelter once used by cabmen who carried passengers in horsedrawn carriages between High and Low Harrogate were part of the town's spa heyday.
The shelter overlooks West Park Stray, but in recent years has suffered wear and tear, as well as vandalism.
Now, a century after it was built, the shelter is being restored in a scheme costing £13,500 - a figure that would have bought a mansion overlooking The Stray a century ago.
Harrogate Borough Council cabinet member for finance, Councillor Alan Skidmore, said: "The old shelters add to the distinctive place that is Harrogate."
