A MIDDLESBROUGH school is one step closer to playing football during this year's World Cup, after winning its regional heat at last weekend's Jetix Kids Cup.
Nunthorpe Secondary School defeated six other teams in the under-12 tournament, part of the children's TV channel's international five-a-side football tournament.
More than 100 youngsters took part in the North Shields heat, with Nunthorpe earning a place at the National Final to be staged at JJB Soccerdome, Derby, next month.
The team will join the winners from eight other regions at the National Final, with the successful team representing England, along with teams from up to 15 other countries, at the Jetix Kids Cup international final to be staged at the Olympic Stadium, in Munich, Germany in July.
