A CAMPAIGN to encourage more people in North Yorkshire to stub out their cigarettes is highlighted again tomorrow.
No Smoking Day events supported by Hambleton and Richmondshire Primary Care Trust will be held simultaneously in the Town Hall, in High Street, Northallerton, and in Richmond's Co-op supermarket, from 10am to 4pm.
Health professionals will be here to offer help and advice to anyone interested in stopping smoking themselves or supporting family members of friends to do so.
No Smoking Day aims to help people who want to stop smoking by creating a supportive environment and by signposting the many sources of help available locally.
The event has been running for 23 years and has become a fixture of the UK's health calendar.
Specialist smoking advisor June Abraham said: "Surveys show that three quarters of all smokers would like to quit, and on No Smoking Day more than 1.5m try."
She added: "No Smoking Day isn't just about the day, giving up smoking requires planning, encouragement, support and motivation.
"Helping to prepare to give up can be done year-round, but the day provides that extra motivation many smokers need to stop.
"We would welcome anyone who wants to stop smoking, or anyone who would like to support others in stopping, to come along to talk to us, and find out about the help and support available."
Following on from the No Smoking Day event, there will be seven-week Specialist Stop Smoking clinics in Hambleton and Richmondshire.
They include:
Tuesday, March 14, 12.30pm-1.30pm, Methodist Church Hall, High Street, Northallerton.
Tuesday, March 14, 5pm-6pm, Methodist Church, High Street, Stokesley.
Wednesday, March 15, 5pm-6pm, Darlington College, Catterick Garrison.
