A puffin crossing is being installed to help churchgoers in Darlington.
The crossing will replace a pedestrian crossing in North Road.
It is being installed near to the junction with Holwick Road and Aquinas Court to help people going to St Thomas Aquinas Church.
The puffin crossing has detectors which will extend the time available for pedestrians to cross the road and a further set of detectors will cancel the demand for the crossing if the pedestrian moves away from the crossing area.
A spokesman for Darlington Borough Council said: "The crossing that has been there was there for a couple of years. It's been removed to make way for a new puffin crossing to get people over to the church.
"It's just an improvement to the traffic flow on North Road."
