A COMMUNITY garden in Darlington has been given a £5,000 Lottery grant.
Awards for All has given the money to improve the garden at North Park.
North Road Community Partnership has teamed up with the Friends of North Park and schools to work on the garden.
It is intended to have a mixture of floor level and raised beds which disabled people will be able to work on.
There will also be a sensory garden.
Councillor Steve Jones said: "Hopefully, it will attract a lot of birds. There will be an educational aspect as well as a community aspect.
"There's a lot of terraced housing round here without gardens and they don't seem to have gardens much at schools. So it's going to be a place where people can come and sit in and relax."
The partnership is looking for volunteers to come and help and give ideas.
Anyone who can help is asked to contact Coun Jones on (01325) 481737 or Morvyn Sanderson, community development worker at the town hall, on (01325) 380651.
