PRINCES, princesses and queens mixed with Harry Potter and the Tin Man as primary school youngsters let their imaginations run riot at a sponsored bookathon.
Hartside Primary School, in Crook, was transformed into a magical world as the children arrived yesterday dressed as their favourite book characters to celebrate National Book Day.
The youngsters took part in activities to encourage them to delve more into the world of make-believe by reading books.
Their adventures also raised money which will be shared with their two link schools - Shilela Academy and Lomakaa Primary, in Tanzania, to buy resources.
Headteacher Pauline Walker said: "The children have had a fantastic day and there has been such a lovely atmosphere at the school. As well as enjoying themselves, they wanted to raise money for their friends in Tanzania."
