A RETIRED sheep farmer has been named as the new mayor of Scarborough.
Councillor Herbert Tindall, who is also a Conservative member of North Yorkshire County Council, and a member and former vice-chairman of the North York Moors National Park Authority, has long been a champion for sheep farming on the moors, which he says is in decline.
He has been leading campaigns to give more aid to sheep farmers because, says Coun Tindall, without the flocks, the famous heather moors will rapidly deteriorate.
The new deputy mayor will be Bill Chatt, an independent member of Scarborough Borough Council.
