RESIDENTS have received an apology over works to repair a gas leak on a busy main road.
The engineering work, in Grange Road, Darlington, has caused a headache for people living nearby and motorists since last week.
Temporary two-way traffic lights were put in place near Polam Hall School while the road was dug up, causing disruption to peak-time traffic.
Meanwhile, residents have complained over a noisy generator being used to power the lights.
One said: "You can hear the rumble day and night."
The firm responsible for the work, United Utilities, said it had now carried out repairs and said the road would be reinstated by today.
Spokeswoman Polly Rourke said: "There was a gas leak and because the road is quite narrow, we had no option but to put in temporary traffic lights. We chose one of our quietest generators, but we are really sorry if it has caused a problem and we can only apologise."
