Members of a drama group have once again been broadening their horizons - this time across the Irish Sea.

Bishop Auckland Theatre Hooligans (Bath) have made their name in their home town with their hard-hitting productions on subjects such as anti-social behaviour, drugs and domestic violence.

The youngsters have sold out numerous shows and last month performed for Prince Edward during his visit to Bishop Auckland. They have also enjoyed several trips abroad to spread their messages and learn more about other cultures.

On Monday, they returned from Ireland, where 22 members of the group spent the past week. It is the sixth time the group has visited the Emerald Isle. They have also been to Norway, Italy and Brazil.

Group leader Stephen Elliott said that the trips were designed not only to reward the youngsters for hard work, but also to teach them more about life in other places.

He said: "It's a chance to look back on what we have done and where we are going. It is a reward, but also a bit of an evaluation."

Youngsters were chosen for the trip based on their efforts and dedication over the past year.

Yasmin Jabari, 14, said that the trip had been a fantastic experience and that she hoped to go again with the group. She said: "I can't describe what it's like - it's just magical."
