A CONCERT is being held in memory of a military policeman killed in Iraq.

Lance Corporal Ben Hyde, from Northallerton, North Yorkshire, died in June 2003 with five other military police officers, in an ambush on a police station.

His parents have set up a charity, the L Cpl Ben Hyde Memorial Trust, to raise funds for the Royal Military Police central benevolent fund and other good causes.

On Saturday, March 11, Northallerton Silver Band will perform at the Garrison Church, Catterick Garrison, in aid of the trust.

They will play pieces including Watchtower, the regimental march of the Royal Military Police and Ewcote, a piece that the band has dedicated to L Cpl Hyde's memory.

A similar concert was held in March last year.

His father, John, said: "As the concert was successful in raising over £1,000 for charity and was thoroughly enjoyed by both the audience and the band, the band decided they would like to include it in their calendar as an annual event."

All proceeds will be split between the Royal Military Police central benevolent fund, Queen Alexandra's Royal Army Nursing Corps Association and Northallerton Silver Band funds.

Tickets for the concert, which starts at 7.30pm, cost £5 for adults and £3 for concessions.

They are available from Northallerton Bookshop in Barkers Arcade, Northallerton; Zetland Winestore, Zetland Street, Northallerton and The Cutting Room Hairdressers in Hildyard Row, Catterick Garrison.
