A TEAM of Army Cadet runners has scooped two silver trophies at a cross-country event.
The 16 athletes, from Cleveland Army Cadet Force (ACF), ran through sub-zero temperatures to bring home the prizes from the ACF North-East Cross-Country Championships, on Saturday, at Otterburn Training Camp.
The girls and boys, from 13 to 18, were part of a field of about 60 youngsters, from Yorkshire, Humberside, Cleveland and Northumbria, who competed.
Aimee Atha, 14, from Guisborough Town Green Howard Detachment, won the intermediate girls' competition, with an outstanding run in the atrocious conditions.
Natalie Sleeman, 14, of Skelton Green Howard Detachment, 15-year-old Emma Walsh, of Norton Parachute Detachment, and Jodie Sutherland, 14, of Guisborough Town Green Howard Detachment, were placed fourth, fifth and sixth respectively, giving them the first team place with 16 points.
Lance Corporal Jonathan Horner, 16, from Thornaby Green Howard Detachment, was second in the senior boys' competition, taking home the silver medal.
Major Richard Murray, Cleveland ACF sports officer, said: "Cadets who came within the top six of each category will now go forward to the National Cross-Country Competition, at Warcop Training Area, next month.
"With the determination and enthusiasm the cadets have shown in the North-East competition, expectations are more silver trophies will be heading home to Cleveland."
