YOUNG people from 13 to 19 from Stockton Borough Council's youth service took advantage of a sports coaching sessop, on Friday.
The event, at the University of Teesside's sports hall, was part of a nationwide student volunteering week.
Students from Durham University Student Community Action (SCA) and Teesside University' Student's Union taught 20 teenagers how to play futsal, a variety of five-a-side football.
Durham University SCA is a registered charity, which promotes student volunteering and involvement in the local community.
At Queen's Campus, Stockton, the focus is on raising the aspirations and confidence of young people.
Councillor Alex Cunningham, Stockton council's cabinet member for children and young people, said: "We are proud of the work that we do with the universities, and it's great that the students there are getting involved with our young people and encourage them in such a positive way."
"Who knows, it may even lead to more young people taking up higher education.
