A father who pushed his babys face against a gas fire before beating him to death against a wall has been jailed for life.
The judge said that Paul O'Neil, 33, should not be recommended for parole for at least 22 years for the way he tortured his son Aaron to death.
Aaron suffered a horrifying catalogue of 37 injuries and was seen by a doctor after some of his bones had been broken.
His mother Jody Taylor, 21, who did nothing to save Aaron from his brutal dad, was jailed for three and a half years at Newcastle Crown Court after admitting child cruelty.
O'Neil, who was convicted of murder and GBH, twice pressed screaming three-month-old Aaron's head on to the 80C fire for up to ten seconds.
The jury found O'Neil guilty of murder and burning Aaron on the fire. They could not reach verdicts on other GBH charges relating to broken ribs and two skull fractures and he was cleared of breaking the tot's collar and calf bones.
