A VILLAGE this weekend will pay tribute to a man who devoted years of his life to local causes.
A notice board honouring John Hart Cousans will be unveiled in Potto, near Stokesley, at 2pm on Sunday afternoon.
Mr Cousans lived in the village for 39 years, until he died in July 2003. He was a member of the parish meeting and, in 1969, became a founder member of the parish council.
He was appointed chairman of the parish council in 1976 and stayed in office until 1987. In 1992, he was re-appointed to the role and held the office until he died.
"We've had many donations from villagers and friends in his memory, and we wanted to do something as a permanent tribute to him," said council chairwoman Amy Mazingham yesterday.
The notice board will replace the old one, beside the village post-box.
