A LOAD of old junk was used to entertain visitors to Newton Aycliffe town centre this week when it hosted an unusual arts day.
The Greenfield Junk Music group, based at Greenfield Community and Arts Centre, performed six pieces of original music on instruments they made from old barrels, drain pipes and washing machines.
The session in the town centre provided valuable rehearsal time for the group, which will be performing alongside Melting Pot Arts at Durham's Gala Theatre on Sunday.
Inside Somerfield supermarket, about 20 youngsters used recycled material to make artwork during a free workshop.
The young people worked with artists from Middlesbrough scheme Percy, and art produced on the day is being displayed alongside a community sculpture made by Greenfield Community Arts Centre, in the supermarket window.
The project has been co- ordinated by Greenfield Community and Arts Centre and supported by Hydro Polymers, Town Centre Management and Somerfield.
