HOSPITAL chiefs took time out from a multi-million pound development plan yesterday to welcome a VIP visitor.
Elise Mackinlay, the High Sheriff of North Yorkshire, paid a visit to the Friarage Hospital, in Northallerton.
The chair of the local health trust, Glenys Marriott, showed her round the hospital, which is undergoing a £21m development.
Mrs Mackinlay visited the children's ward, the pathology laboratory and Gara and Allen wards, chatting to staff and patients.
Mrs Marriott said: "I was delighted to welcome the High Sheriff and introduce her to our staff and patients and show her round our hospital to see the good work going on.
"The new development will provide a valuable service to the local population which, I know, holds the Friarage very close to their hearts."
