HISTORY fans are reminded not to miss the chance to create a time capsule.
An open day is to be held at the archaeological dig on Hartlepool's Headland on Sunday.
Visitors to the event can make history of their own, by bringing with them a small passport-sized photograph of themselves, with their name on the back, to go into a time capsule which will be buried at the site.
The dig is being carried out by Tees Archaeology, during the early stages of a large-scale project to create a town square and landscaped history garden in front of the Borough Buildings.
It is the largest dig carried out on The Headland in more than 20 years.
The archaeological work has discovered items of importance that illustrate what life was like in the medieval seaport which occupied the site.
Visitors to the open day - which is from noon to 4pm - will be given guided tours by the archaeologists and will be able to see many of the objects that have been discovered.
The archaeologists have uncovered the remains of a row of medieval properties, complete with the foundations of house walls and back yards.
Also uncovered were wells and the relics of industries such as iron smelting and baking.
