A ROCK night has been organised in Derwentside to raise cash for cancer victims.
It is being held on St Patrick's Day, March 17, at the Lamplight Arts Centre.
Headline acts include the North-East's only Status Quo tribute band, On The Level, and local bands Skinflint and Illusion Street.
Jean Shipley, secretary of Cancer Research UK's Stanley fundraising committee, said: "The event has something to offer for people of all ages. "We hope local people seize the opportunity to hear some great music and help raise money for research into cancer at the same time."
Cancer Research UK spends more than £3m on a range of research projects at Newcastle University.
These include research to devise new and more effective cancer treatments, research into inherited forms of cancer and clinical trials at hospitals in Newcastle and the North-East.
Carol Bennett, Cancer Research UK community fundraiser, said: "One in three people will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lives. Fundraising to support research is a positive way to make a difference. We are very grateful to fundraisers in Stanley for their efforts and continued support."
Tickets for the Rock at the Lamplight Arts Centre event cost £8 and are available from the box office, on (01207) 218899 or at www.derwentside. gov.uk/whatson
The event starts at 7.30pm. For more information contact Jean Shipley on (01207) 231998.
